THE RECIPE is the story of a multiracial family’s journey back to each other. After his mysterious and unexpected death, a Brooklyn man’s wife and adult children discover a stunning secret — the massive financial debts he never told them about. Faced with foreclosure and loss of everything they own, the Jenkins clan must reimagine their lives. Armed with intellect and resourcefulness, they land on an unexpected solution: one that brings their faith, ingenuity, and traditions together. It’s a risky entrepreneurial scheme to make it big in America — can they pull it off? THE RECIPE will explore the themes of family, faith, and transformation.

Zus, a woman running New York's first Black-owned, female-led food photography startup, and her brother Haes, a queer conceptual artist, are pulled back into their childhood traumas when their father unexpectedly dies. Their mother, Ranelle, is alone and adrift...and penniless, they discover, due to their father’s secret debts. But Ranelle finds an unlikely ally in Zus’ husband Alexi, a Greek immigrant and former chef; together they hatch a plot to pull the family out of bankruptcy. A tradition in New York’s immigrant communities, Rainelle mixes her Southern culinary traditions with the Greek spices and techniques of Alexi. Suddenly, they’ve put the family on an exciting, uncharted path towards the American Dream.
